HOW TO HELP
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

our role:
Form a broad-based community partnership that encourages volunteering with the goal of stimulating increased assistance to low-income homeowners, primarily the elderly, disabled and families with children.

who we help:

  • Low-income homeowners
  • Families with children
  • The elderly and disabled who cannot maintain their homes
  • Non-profit facilities

There are five million elderly, low-income homeowners in America. The majority is women and more than one-third live alone. Some use over 40% of their income on housing expenditures, and 22% are defined as "housing poor." Our volunteers help to fill the desperate need for home repairs and maintenance.

how we help:
We rehabilitate homes of those in great need, free of charge. Referrals can come from local municipalities, churches, synagogues, community organizations, service groups and individuals. In the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor, homeowners and their families are welcome to work with the volunteers.

our volunteers:
Anyone can volunteer! Business executives, students, office workers, doctors, lawyers, real estate professionals, policemen, politicians, bankers, and journalists all pitch in to help build a better community. Skilled tradespeople, of course, are always in demand. Nationally, Rebuilding Together draws on thousands of carpenters, plumbers, electricians, roofers and other skilled volunteers who donate their time each year.
A volunteer Board of Directors governs Rebuilding Together. Board members are caring people from the business, professional and volunteer communities in the Northwest suburbs.
